Thanks
This much needed facility has become a reality because of the compassion, kindness and generosity of our community. In a time when our economy is struggling, our community keeps pitching in to help us maintain and continue to grow. This facility was started with a vision and continues to grow on faith. We started with a summer day camp. Because of the overwhelming need and support from our community, we are working towards a year-round adult day activities program which will give our participants choices, something that is too often taken for granted by most of us. The Knights of Virginia Assisting the Retarded (KOVAR) is a group of men who has believed so much in what we are doing and the special folks we serve. It took their generous donations of a picnic shelter (with a fireplace and very large deck), a barn, and much more for others to see we are serious and dedicated in serving this very special and unique population. Thanks! The Arts Council of the Valley provided funds for the sound system through their annual grant. This project has allowed us to bring high-quality music to our participants. Thanks! We are humbled by the donations from groups such as the Lions Club, Ruritans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Pilot Club, Kiwanis, Moose, Knights of Columbus (Father Edward W. Johnson Council #9488) and Ronald McDonald House Charities of greater Washington D.C. and Charlottesville. Churches, businesses, and individuals have donated building materials, shirts for the campers, food, items for raffles, computers, etc. Thanks! The gentlemen from the Harrisonburg Men’s Diversion Center have cleared the land and continue to maintain our beautiful facility in park-like condition. They have built fencing for the animals, planted our orchard, and made trails in the woods so that both ambulatory and non-ambulatory participants can enjoy nature at its best. Thanks! The Spotswood Garden Club started by getting the topographical mapping done. Rachel Lilly is a registered landscape architect and is working with them to design the camp. They are now in the process of designing and adding the special touches that only an organization of their caliber can do. Thanks! Many volunteers have given us countless hours of their time. We have asked for planners, dreamers, helpers, and doers - and people have answered that call. Thanks! Thanks to everyone who has made a difference. You can make a difference by supporting us in our mission in serving children and adults in our community with mental retardation and/or physical disabilities.
